TXR 2229Notice of Termination Due to Casualty Loss

One-page notice that the Tenant or the Landlord terminates a residential lease under Texas Property Code Section 92.054 because a recent natural disaster or catastrophe has rendered the Property unusable for residential purposes. The notice is effective when sent; the Tenant must vacate within the stated number of days after receipt or the Landlord may remove and dispose of the Tenant's personal property to begin repairs. Move-out reminders cover returning keys and access devices, giving a forwarding address (a blank is provided), leaving the Property free of trash and personal property, other Landlord move-out requirements, and holdover rent under Paragraph 19 of the Lease (Paragraph 22 for Leases dated on or before January 4, 2026).

The TXR 2229 form is organized into the following sections:

  1. Notice Header and Property Identification
    "To: ___", "From: ___" and "Re: Lease concerning the Property at ___" (the address continues on a full-width second line).
  2. A. Termination
    "Due to significant damage as a result of a recent natural disaster or catastrophe that has rendered the Property unusable for residential purposes, the ☐ Tenant or ☐ Landlord hereby provides notice of termination of the Lease under Section 92.054 of the Texas Property Code."
  3. B. Lease Termination Date and Move-Out Reminders
    "The notice of termination due to casualty loss is effective when sent and Tenant shall vacate the Property ___ days after receipt of the notice. If Tenant does not vacate … Landlord may remove Tenant's personal property and dispose of them in order to begin repairs." Move-out reminders 1–5 follow; reminder 2 has a forwarding-address rule (Street / City State / Zip).
  4. Signatures
    Two "Landlord … Date" rules (left column) and four "Tenant … Date" rules (right column), then "Or signed for Landlord under written property management agreement or power of attorney: By: ___" (no Date beside it) with "Printed Name:" and "Firm Name:" beneath. Signature lines and their dates are e-sign tabs.
